Niagara Falls blows out Ancaster, 5-1

The Niagara Falls Canucks were firing on all cylinders against the Ancaster Avalanche, and when the final buzzer sounded Canucks emerged with a 5-1 win.

Niagara Falls was led by goalie Emerson Verrier, who finished with 35 saves while allowing one goal. Verrier managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.26 prior to the game.

The Canucks were paced by Cole Vinnai, who registered one goal and one assist. Vinnai scored 4:10 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Niagara Falls. Vito Scaringi assisted on the tally.

Niagara Falls racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. The Canucks surpassed its season average of 33.0 penalty minutes per game. Niagara Falls forced Ancaster's goalies to work all game long, racking up 36 shots and forcing 31 saves. Matt Calas made 22 stops and Braydon Banitsiotis made nine.

Niagara Falls additionally got points from Scaringi, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Niagara Falls also had goals scored by MacKenzie Wood, Johnny Curran, and Christopher Moses, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Sean Farquharson, who had two and Chris Harpur, Nolan Dunn, Garrett Gallardi, Mitch McIntosh, Cole Langan, and Marcus Michalski, who contributed one a piece.

The Avalanche were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. Ancaster had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Avalanche did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Ancaster puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. The Avalanche forced the Canucks goalie Verrier to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Ancaster was led by Zach Niemanen, who scored the team's only goal. Niemanen scored on the power play 44 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Luke Zupan picked up the assist.

Niagara Falls registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Canucks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Denis Creighton was ejected from the game. The Avalanche registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Ancaster, Jake Milligan was ejected from the game.
