St. Thomas wins tough contest against St. Marys, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the St. Thomas Stars escaped with a 6-4 victory over the St. Marys Lincolns.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Spencer Hutchinson at 14:30 of the third period.

With four goals and one assist between them, Chris Carreiro and Brett Van Dusen teamed up to power St. Thomas' offense. Carreiro registered two goals and one assist and Van Dusen also added two goals.

The Stars' offense rang up 41 shots on St. Marys' net. St. Thomas outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Stars average 3.5 goals per contest. St. Thomas cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on four chances.

St. Thomas also got points from Hutchinson, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Luc Knight, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for St. Thomas came via Josh Coyle(APM), who had two, Carson Brookshaw, who had three, and Braden Hellems and Aiden Jamieson, who contributed one a piece.

The Lincolns made the Stars' netminders to work between the pipes, ripping 33 shots and forcing 29 saves. Riley Brown made 22 stops and Nick Dampier made seven.

St. Marys was helped by Ocean Check, who had two goals and one assist. Check scored the first of his two goals at 3:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Marys. Garret James (APM) picked up the assist. Check's next tally made the score 3-2 St. Marys with 1:44 left in the first period. James (APM) provided the assist. St. Marys additionally got points from Rai Diloreto, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Cody Filson also scored for St. Marys. In addition, St. Marys received assists from Max Naus, who had one.

St. Thomas incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Andrew Masters made 35 saves for the Lincolns on 40 shots. St. Marys incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
