St. Thomas uses shootout to best xStrathroy, 5-4 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the St. Thomas Stars defeated the xStrathroy Rockets in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for four attempts between the teams. St. Thomas' other shootout goal was scored by Spencer Hutchinson.

The Stars overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. St. Thomas trailed 4-1 after a goal by xStrathroy's Nick Boyer at 5:13 in the second period. The Stars tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Chris Carreiro at 17:28 in the third period.

St. Thomas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Rockets to score on any of their three power plays. The Stars kept xStrathroy's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jack Moylan made 33 saves on 38 shots.

St. Thomas was led by Alex Morgan, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Morgan scored 11:08 into the third period to make the score 4-3 xStrathroy. Luc Knight picked up the assist. St. Thomas also got points from Josh Slegers, who also finished with one goal and one assist. John Warren also scored for St. Thomas. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Blair Mincer and Josh Coyle(APM), who each chipped in one.

The Rockets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four St. Thomas power plays.

xStrathroy was led by Wes Baker, who registered two goals and one assist. Baker scored the first of his two goals at 9:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 xStrathroy. Jack Van Boekel assisted on the tally. Baker's next tally made the score 3-0 xStrathroy with 6:43 left in the first period. Boyer provided the assist. xStrathroy additionally got points from Boyer, who also had one goal and one assist. xStrathroy also got a goal from Dan Chapman as well. More assists for xStrathroy came via Jordan DaSilva, Ryan Field, and Dylan Wilson-Foote, who contributed one a piece.

The Stars took out Riley Brown after he had made five saves and installed Nick Dampier in goal, where he finished with 21 saves and the win. St. Thomas incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Stars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cam Garrow was ejected from the game. The Rockets incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
