Sarnia beats xLaSalle 5-4 after comeback scare

The xLaSalle Vipers tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Sarnia Legionnaires would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

A goal by Josh Kestner put Sarnia up 5-3 in the third period, but xLaSalle pulled to within one on Devon Paliani's tally 19:51 into the third period.

The Legionnaires got the win with help from a great game by Kestner, who had two goals and one assist. Kestner scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:01 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Sarnia. Sarnia had gained a power play chance when Nicolas Crescenzi was whistled for too many men. Tyler Prong assisted on the tally. Kestner's next tally on the power play made the score Sarnia with 1:55 left in the third period. Thomas Moxley picked up the assist.

The Legionnaires made the Vipers' goaltenders to work without much rest, finishing with 34 shots and forcing 29 saves. Cameron Zanussi made four stops and Paolo Battisti made 25.

Sarnia also had goals scored by Jay Clarke, Riley Babkirk, and Bobby King, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Ryan Vendramin, Nathan Mater, Jordan Fogarty, Hunter Tyczynski, and Riley Roberts, who each chipped in one.

xLaSalle kept Sarnia's goalie busy throughout the game, and Braden Palocz made 29 saves on 33 shots.

The Vipers were helped by Daniel Beaudoin, who had two goals. Beaudoin scored the first of his two goals at 14:00 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Sarnia. Nathan Savage assisted on the tally. Beaudoin's next tally made the score 4-3 Sarnia with 7:05 left in the third period. A fighting penalty on Mater had put xLaSalle on the power play. Dylan Denomme picked up the assist. xLaSalle also got points from Savage, who also tallied one goal and two assists. In addition, xLaSalle received assists from Austin Hall and Mark Manchurek, who contributed one a piece.

The Legionnaires totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Sarnia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mater was ejected from the game. The Vipers totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For xLaSalle, Battisti was ejected from the game.
