Thorold blows out Buffalo, 8-1

The Thorold Blackhawks had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-1 win over the Buffalo Regals.

Francesco Gigliotti had two goals and one assist to lead Thorold. Gigliotti scored the first of his two goals at 2:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thorold. Stephen Jablonski assisted on the tally. Gigliotti's next tally made the score 3-1 Thorold with 6:31 left in the second period. Matt Pizzo picked up the assist.

The Blackhawks were led by goalie Brendan Polasek, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. Polasek managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.37 prior to the game.

Thorold excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Blackhawks forced Buffalo goalie Ian Sylves *AP to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. Thorold bested its season scoring average. The Blackhawks have scored at the pace of 4.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

Thorold additionally got points from Christian Difelice, who also had one goal and two assists, Owen Sobchak, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Kevin Millejours, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Thorold included Chris Goulet and Nick Sacco, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Michael Sharpe, who had three and Liam Buren, Jason Abbott, and Zach McQuade, who each chipped in one.

Penalties took their toll on the Regals, as their penalty kill unit let in three power play goals.

Buffalo was led by Jeff Avoilo *AP, who scored the team's only goal. Avoilo *AP scored 18:15 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Colin Farell assisted on the tally.

Thorold incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Regals' Sylves *AP stopped 40 shots out of the 48 that he faced. Buffalo incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
