Huge game by Murphy boosts Caledonia over Welland, 5-2

Connor Murphy had two goals and one assist to lead the Caledonia Corvairs to a 5-2 victory over the Welland Jr. Canadians.

Murphy scored on the power play at 4:55 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Caledonia and again while 5:21 into the third to make the score 4-2 Caledonia.

Caledonia pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 36 penalty minutes.

The Corvairs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Caledonia's offense rang up 44 shots on Welland's net.

Caledonia additionally got points from Cody Brown, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Caledonia included Jeffrey Marlott and Matt Quilty, who each put in one. More assists for Caledonia came via Spencer Gourlay, who had three and Colin Furlong, Scott Dorian, Mitch Brown, Kyler Nixon, and Jake Brown, who contributed one a piece.

The Corvairs were unable to stop the Jr. Canadians from sending pucks towards the net, and Welland eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

The Jr. Canadians were helped by Brayden Stortz, who finished with one goal. Stortz scored 4:36 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Caledonia. Matt Cuglietta assisted on the tally. Welland also got a goal from Jack Fitzgerald as well. In addition, Welland received assists from Adam Mataya, Jason Lacroix, and Gabe Ruggi, who each chipped in one.

Furlong recorded 33 saves for Caledonia. The Corvairs registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Welland's Jeffrey Heartwell stopped 39 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Jr. Canadians incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
