Stratford boosted by Caldwell's play in net, beats Elmira 4-1Dan Snyder Memorial Sun, Jan 05, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stratford Cullitons relied on the sparkling performance of Nick Caldwell in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Elmira Sugar Kings. Stratford pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 36 penalty minutes. The Cullitons were led by Trevor Sauder, who had one goal and one assist. Sauder scored 12 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stratford. Devon Kropf picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:19 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. Stratford additionally got points from Jake Pleon, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Mitch Brooks, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Stratford also got a goal from Nick Nigro as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stratford were Josh Miller, who had one. Elmira could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Sugar Kings put an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game. Elmira struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays. The Sugar Kings were led by Brad Kobryn, who scored the team's only goal. Kobryn scored on the power play 4:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. A head contact penalty on Trevor MacDonald had put Elmira on the power play. Adam Campagnolo provided the assist. Caldwell rejected 28 shots on goal for Stratford. Team's Carter Allen and Tyson Baker were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Hayden Neuman made 25 saves for the Sugar Kings on 28 shots. Elmira registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For the Sugar Kings, David Savery and Mitch Klie were ejected from the contest.
