Listowel penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of Brantford

The Brantford 99ers failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Listowel Cyclones shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Listowel was sparked by Kevin Gergley, who had one goal and one assist. Gergley scored 18:09 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Listowel. Kenny Huether assisted on the tally.

The Cyclones made Brantford's goalies to work in net, taking 34 shots and forcing 29 saves. Marcus Del Conte made 17 stops and Andre Keire made 12. Listowel stifled the 99ers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cyclones surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Listowel averages 2.9 goals per game.

Listowel also got points from Huether, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Derek Elliot, who also registered two goals and one assist. Listowel also got a goal from Tanner Mighton as well. More assists for Listowel came via Austin Kovrig, Reid Simmons, and Ray McFalls, who contributed one a piece.

Brantford was helped by Luc Hartholt, who finished with one goal. Hartholt scored 13:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brantford. Mitch Camacho picked up the assist. Nathan Bastian also scored for Brantford. In addition, Brantford received assists from Guy Polillo, Cole Cummings, and Scotty Penwarden, who each chipped in one.

Tanner Topham rejected 21 shots on goal for the Cyclones. Listowel incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. The Cyclones ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dylan Sayles was ejected from the game. The 99ers incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
