Sarnia squeaks by Lambton Shores, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Sarnia Legionnaires escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Lambton Shores Predators.

Sarnia gained the winning advantage on a goal by Nathan Mater 16:54 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Mater was all over the ice for the Legionnaires, as he registered two goals in the win.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:45 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

Sarnia was often in penalty trouble, totaling 14 minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game the Legionnaires had been spending in the box. Sarnia forced Lambton Shores goalie Justin Fazio to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

Sarnia additionally got points from Cody Trowell, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Jordan Fogarty, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Hunter Tyczynski, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Davis Boyer, Curtis Crombeen, Josh Kestner, Jay Clarke, and Riley Roberts, who each chipped in one.

Team could not crack the Legionnaires' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

The Predators were helped by Steven Beenackers, who had one goal. Beenackers scored 11:06 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Lambton Shores. Adam Wammes provided the assist. Lambton Shores also got points from Ty Jackson, who also registered one goal and one assist and Matthew Kenney, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Lambton Shores also got a goal from Nick Sproveiro as well. Other players who recorded assists for Lambton Shores were Brendan Trottier, who had one and Colin Burns and Ryan Fraser, who each chipped in two.

Hunter Johnson recorded 22 saves for Sarnia. The Legionnaires registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For Sarnia, Crombeen, Clarke, and Brad Campbell were ejected from the contest. Lambton Shores' Fazio stopped 38 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Predators ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. Team's Kirk Dorman and Brent Hammett were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
