Port Colborne holds on for 5-4 win against Buffalo

The Buffalo Regals tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Port Colborne Pirates would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

A goal by James Mewse-Detrich put Port Colborne up 5-3 in the third period, but Buffalo pulled to within one on Colton Anstey's tally 18:00 into the third period.

Mewse-Detrich had two goals to lead the Pirates to victory.

Port Colborne forced Regals' goaltenders to work in net, totaling 61 shots and forcing 56 saves. Ian Sylves *AP made 14 stops and Adam Dentico made 42. The Pirates' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Port Colborne finished with 28 penalty minutes.

Port Colborne also got points from Trevor Smith, who also registered one goal and one assist. Dakota Kingston also scored for Port Colborne. More assists for Port Colborne came via John DiLorenzo, who had two, Charlie Izaguirre, who had three, and Cody Mintz, DYLAN BURDICK, and Brock Ackerman, who each chipped in one.

The Regals found themselves short handed often, totaling 34 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Buffalo additionally got points from Michael Faliero, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Buffalo also got a goal from Ryan Cox as well. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Nicholas Matos, who had two and Jeff Avoilo *AP and Matthew Shumate, who contributed one a piece.

Jake Danson rejected 24 shots on goal for the Pirates. Buffalo registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. For the Regals, Taggart Ledyard, Kennedy Monaco, and Matos were ejected from the contest.
