St. Thomas rips Lambton Shores, 13-4

The St. Thomas Stars were firing on all cylinders against the Lambton Shores Predators, and when the final buzzer sounded Stars emerged with a 13-4 win.

Braden Hellems had one goal and two assists to lead St. Thomas. Hellems scored on the power play 8:21 into the second period to make the score 5-3 St. Thomas. The Stars had taken the advantage when Lambton Shores' Brendan Trottier got sent off for hooking. Alex Morgan picked up the assist.

The Predators were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as St. Thomas was able to score four times while on the power play.

The Stars stifled Lambton Shores' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Thomas forced the Predators goalie Justin Fazio to work between the pipes, taking 58 shots. The Stars' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, St. Thomas averages 3.4 goals per contest. The Stars got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

St. Thomas additionally got points from Cam Garrow, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Morgan, who also registered one goal and three assists, Chris Carreiro, who also had one goal and two assists, Luc Knight, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Carson Brookshaw, who also registered one goal and one assist. St. Thomas also got a goal from Josh Slegers as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Josh Coyle(APM), who had three, Brett Van Dusen, who had four, John Warren, who had five, and Blair Mincer and Matt Simsons, who each chipped in two.

Lambton Shores was helped by Steven Beenackers, who grabbed one goal. Beenackers scored 2:27 into the second period to make the score 3-2 St. Thomas. Bryan Boersma assisted on the tally. Lambton Shores also got points from Ty Jackson, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Austin Fetterly also scored for Lambton Shores. More assists for Lambton Shores came via Adam Wammes, who had two and Cody Perriam, Liam Ginnell, and Nick Sproveiro, who each chipped in one.

St. Thomas' Riley Brown stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Stars incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Fazio recorded 45 saves for the Predators. Lambton Shores incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
