Joe Mitchell was all over the ice for the Thorold Blackhawks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Thorold's 5-1 win over the Port Colborne Pirates. Mitchell found the back of the net on the power play 18:43 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Thorold and again while 6:48 into the second to make the score 4-0 Thorold.Port Colborne's power play was ineffective against the Blackhawks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Thorold stifled the Pirates' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Blackhawks found themselves short handed often, totaling 28 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays. Others who scored for Thorold included Chris Goulet, Ryan Sarris, and Kyle Tanev, who scored one goal each. More assists for Thorold came via Owen Sobchak, who had two and Matt Pizzo, Christian Difelice, and Zach McQuade, who contributed one a piece. Port Colborne could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Pirates put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. Thorold's Ian Shorthouse stopped 24 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Blackhawks registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Thorold ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sam Berg was ejected from the game. Marcus Hlywka made 20 saves for Port Colborne on 25 shots. The Pirates incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
