Huge game by Gallardi boosts Niagara Falls over Port Colborne, 9-5

Garrett Gallardi was all over the ice for the Niagara Falls Canucks, as he tallied two goals and two assists in Niagara Falls' 9-5 win over the Port Colborne Pirates.

Gallardi found the back of the net 8:22 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Port Colborne and again while 7:42 into the third to make the score 8-4 Niagara Falls.

The Canucks made Pirates' netminders to work all game long, launching 48 shots and forcing 39 saves. Jake Danson made 32 stops and Marcus Hlywka made seven. Niagara Falls avoided man-down situations well, totaling one major for 15 minutes in penalty time. The Canucks ended up below its season average of 35.0 penalty minutes per game. Niagara Falls bested its season scoring average. This season, the Canucks average 4.2 goals per contest. The defensemen of Niagara Falls were also effective in Port Colborne's zone, and came away with two goals.

Niagara Falls additionally got points from Johnny Curran, who also registered one goal and one assist, Cole Vinnai, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Mitch McIntosh, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Niagara Falls included Matthew Mannella, Vito Scaringi, and Denis Creighton, who scored one goal each. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Marcus Michalski, who had three, Nolan Dunn, Spencer Leenders, and Vittorio Giannico, who contributed one a piece, and MacKenzie Wood and Billy Saxton, who each chipped in two.

The Pirates were helped by DYLAN BURDICK, who grabbed one goal. BURDICK scored 3:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Colborne. Port Colborne also had goals scored by Joe Dagostino, Cody Levasseur, Matthew White, and Trevor Smith, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Port Colborne were Charlie Izaguirre, who had one and Spencer Fox, who had two.

The Canucks took out Dylan Pietrangelo after he had made eight saves and installed Emerson Verrier in goal, where he finished with 16 saves and the win. Niagara Falls registered one goal on two power play opportunities. For the Canucks, Tory McLean was ejected from the game. Port Colborne incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
