Listowel's comeback falls short, Guelph wins 5-3

The Guelph Hurricanes came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Listowel Cyclones, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Guelph led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Hurricanes' Craig Martini's scored at 19:20 in the second period to put Guelph up 6-3.

Chad Herron had a great game for the Hurricanes, netting two goals. Herron's tallies came at 11:40 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Listowel and 12:39 into the first to make the score 3-2 Guelph.

Guelph excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Guelph additionally got points from Martini, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Ryan Migliaccio, who also registered one goal and two assists. Guelph also had goals scored by Shawn Rooke and Ian Chan, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Sebastian Stangherlin, Lawrence Pagnan, Michael Courvoisier, Dustin Scheer (APJ), Scott Villeneuve, and Jordan Hatzinger, who each chipped in one.

Listowel forced Hurricanes' goaltenders to work in net, taking 32 shots and forcing 29 saves. Bradley Van Schubert made 29 stops and Stormer Santana made zero.

The Cyclones were helped by Blake Nichol, who racked up one goal. Nichol scored 3:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Listowel. Others who scored for Listowel included Caleb Warren (APM) and Mac Nichol, who scored one goal each. In addition, Listowel received assists from Ben Shelley, who had one and Tim Nauta, who had two.

The Hurricanes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Tanner Topham rejected 25 shots on goal for Listowel. The Cyclones incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
