Strathroy uses shootout to best Sarnia, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Strathroy Rockets defeated the Sarnia Legionnaires in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Strathroy overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Rockets was down 4-2 after a goal by Sarnia's Billy Grillo at 6:22 in the third period. Strathroy tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Nick Boyer at 17:28 in the third period.

The Rockets got the win thanks to a great game by Kurtis Sander, who had one goal and two assists. Sander scored on the power play 17:42 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Strathroy had taken the advantage when the Legionnaires' Mitchell Minder got sent off for slashing. Cole Mayo provided the assist.

Sarnia was unable to stop the Rockets from sending pucks towards the net, and Strathroy eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Strathroy also had goals scored by Jack Kilgour and Wes Baker, who each put in one. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Jack Moylan, who had one and Mike Mandarelli, who had two.

The Legionnaires' offense rang up 32 shots on the Rockets' net.

Others who scored for Sarnia included Davis Boyer, Cody Trowell, and Bobby King, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Josh Kestner, Ryan Vendramin, and Brad Campbell, who contributed one a piece and Riley Babkirk and PJ Vandervaart, who each chipped in two.

Moylan recorded 28 saves for Strathroy. The Rockets incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Sarnia's Hunter Johnson stopped 38 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Legionnaires incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
