Waterloo holds on for 2-1 win against Kitchener

The Waterloo Siskins survived a determined comeback attempt by the Kitchener Dutchmen on the way to a 2-1 win.

Waterloo made the score 2-0 on a goal by Ryan Taylor at 7:50 in the third period, and Kitchener got as close as 2-1 when Clayton Greer scored 18:54 into the third period.

Taylor had a great game for the Siskins, netting two goals.

Waterloo's Leo Lazarev was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. Lazarev certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.12 entering the contest.

The Siskins put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Dutchmen to score on any of their three power plays.

Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Joshua Defarias, who had one and Eric Cimino, who had two.

Kitchener's offense operated below it season average. The Dutchmen put an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game. Waterloo was unable to stop Kitchener from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dutchmen eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

More assists for Kitchener came via Kyle Ellis and Keegan Calder, who each chipped in one.

The Siskins incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Kitchener's Marc Williams stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Dutchmen incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
