Elmira boosted by Neuman's play in net, beats Listowel 4-1Dan Snyder Memorial Sun, Dec 15, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Hayden Neuman helped the Elmira Sugar Kings defeat the Listowel Cyclones, 4-1. Listowel was stymied by Elmira netminder Neuman, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. Neuman certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.7 entering the contest. The Sugar Kings' penalty kill excelled, as Elmira gave up one goal despite allowing 11 power plays. The Cyclones were unable to stop the Sugar Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Elmira eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. The Sugar Kings were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 52 penalty minutes. Elmira was led by Cash Seraphim, who registered two goals. Seraphim scored the first of his two goals at 14:13 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Elmira. Zac Coulter assisted on the tally. Seraphim's next tally made the score 3-0 Elmira with 2:45 left in the first period. A slashing penalty on Kevin Gergley had put the Sugar Kings on the power play. Mitch Wright provided the assist. Elmira also had goals scored by Mitch Klie and Adam Campagnolo, who each put in one. In addition, Elmira received assists from Michael Wilkins, who had one and Brad Kobryn, who had two. Listowel forced Elmira goalie Neuman to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Cyclones could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game. Listowel was led by Dylan Sayles, who scored the team's only goal. Sayles scored on the power play 1:25 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Elmira. Kenny Huether assisted on the tally. The Sugar Kings registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Tanner Topham recorded 27 saves for the Cyclones.
