Waterloo boosted by Lazarev's play in net, beats Kitchener 2-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Leo Lazarev helped the Waterloo Siskins defeat the Kitchener Dutchmen, 2-1.

Waterloo's penalty kill excelled, as the Siskins gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Waterloo was led by Chase Campbell-APM, who grabbed one goal. Campbell-APM scored 5:23 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Waterloo. Evan Buehler assisted on the tally.

The Siskins kept Kitchener's goalie busy throughout the game, and Marc Williams made 33 saves on 35 shots.

Waterloo also got a goal from Nick Hirst as well. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Luke Gazzola, Michael Mantenuto, and Connor Bodnar, who each chipped in one.

The Dutchmen excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Kitchener's offense operated below it season average. The Dutchmen put an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game. Kitchener forced Waterloo goalie Lazarev to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

The Dutchmen were led by Kyle Ellis, who scored the team's only goal. Ellis scored on the power play 2:18 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kitchener earned a power play opportunity when Thomas Carey was put in the box for cross checking. Clayton Greer picked up the assist.

Lazarev rejected 32 shots on goal for the Siskins. Waterloo incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Dutchmen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
