Stratford downs Guelph in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Stratford Cullitons' Devon Kropf scored 19 seconds into overtime to beat the Guelph Hurricanes, 5-4 (OT).

Stratford came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cullitons fell behind 3-0 after a goal by Guelph's Matt Lippa at 11:59 in the first period. Stratford knotted things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Tyson Baker at 14:30 in the second period.

The Cullitons were led by Kropf, who grabbed one goal and one assist.

Stratford forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Cullitons surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. Stratford kept the Hurricanes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Bradley Van Schubert made 27 saves on 32 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Stratford also got points from Ryker Killins, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Stratford also had goals scored by Jake Pleon and Trevor MacDonald, who scored one goal each. In addition, Stratford received assists from Josh Miller, Carter Allen, and O Brien Shane, who contributed one a piece and Dylan Wettlaufer and Trevor Sauder, who each chipped in two.

Team could not crack the Cullitons' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Guelph was helped by Ian Chan, who registered one goal. Chan scored on the power play 11:55 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Guelph. The Hurricanes had gained a power play chance when Mitch Vandergunst was whistled for interference. Scott Villeneuve picked up the assist. Guelph additionally got points from Lippa, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Craig Martini, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Sam Natale APJ also scored for Guelph. More assists for Guelph came via Michael Courvoisier, who had two and Dustin Scheer (APJ) and Zach McFadden, who contributed one a piece.

Stratford's Michael Pesendorfer stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Cullitons registered three goals on six power play opportunities. For Stratford, Shane was ejected from the game. Guelph ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. The Hurricanes ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Lippa was ejected from the game.
