Curran nets hat trick, leads Niagara Falls to 5-4 win over WellandGale Centre Fri, Dec 13, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Johnny Curran lifted the Niagara Falls Canucks to a 5-4 victory with a hat trick against the Welland Jr. Canadians. Curran's first goal came 31 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 7:56 into the second and at 17:50 into the second.Niagara Falls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Welland power plays. Niagara Falls also got points from Denis Creighton, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Garrett Gallardi also scored for Niagara Falls. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Cole Vinnai, who had two and Chris Harpur and Marcus Michalski, who contributed one a piece. The Canucks were unable to stop Welland from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Canadians eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Penalties took their toll on Welland, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals. The Jr. Canadians were helped by Matt Cuglietta, who had two goals. Cuglietta scored the first of his two goals at 12:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1. JC Thivienge assisted on the tally. Cuglietta's next tally made the score 4-4 with 9:29 left in the third period. Welland additionally got points from Gabe Ruggi, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Welland also got a goal from Jason Lacroix as well. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Jack Fitzgerald, who had one. Emerson Verrier recorded 36 saves for Niagara Falls. The Canucks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Niagara Falls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Spencer Leenders was ejected from the game. Welland's Jeffrey Heartwell stopped 21 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Jr. Canadians incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
