Caledonia survives Ancaster comeback, wins 3-1

The Caledonia Corvairs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Ancaster Avalanche on the way to a 3-1 win.

Caledonia took a 3-0 lead during the third period, only to have Ancaster storm back on a Max Balinson goal 18:33 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Corvairs were paced by Spencer Gourlay, who tallied one goal. Gourlay scored 3:24 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Caledonia. Matt Quilty provided the assist.

Caledonia's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Ancaster power plays.

Others who scored for Caledonia included Connor Patton and Jayme Forslund, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Connor Murphy, who had two.

The Avalanche excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Ancaster did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Avalanche average 3.7 goals per game.

In addition, Ancaster received assists from Luke Zupan and Harrison Domagala, who contributed one a piece.

The Corvairs' Colin Furlong stopped 24 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Caledonia ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Corvairs, Gourlay was ejected from the game. Blake Richard made 24 saves for Ancaster on 27 shots. The Avalanche incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
