St. Marys beats Lambton Shores 6-4 after comeback scare

The Lambton Shores Predators tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the St. Marys Lincolns held on for a 6-4 victory.

St. Marys took a 6-3 lead during the third period, only to have Lambton Shores storm back on a Adam Wammes goal 11:34 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

Cody Filson had two goals and two assists to lead the Lincolns. Filson scored the first of his two goals at 5:56 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. Marys. Max Naus provided the assist. Filson's next tally made the score 3-2 St. Marys with 4:41 left in the first period. Nico Giannantonio picked up the assist.

St. Marys racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Lincolns surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. St. Marys kept the Predators' goalie busy throughout the game, and Justin Fazio made 30 saves on 36 shots. The Lincolns found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, St. Marys averages 2.2 goals per contest.

St. Marys additionally got points from Naus, who also registered two goals and one assist, Mike Siddall, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Braydon Blight, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. In addition, St. Marys received assists from Colin Nancekinell and Ocean Check, who each chipped in one.

The Lincolns were unable to stop Lambton Shores from sending pucks towards the net, and the Predators eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Lambton Shores could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Predators were led by Ty Jackson, who grabbed two goals. Jackson scored the first of his two goals at 7:15 into the first period to make the score 2-1 St. Marys. Brent Hammett provided the assist. Jackson's next tally made the score 4-3 St. Marys with 17:30 left in the third period. Ryan Fraser picked up the assist. Lambton Shores also got a goal from Colin Burns as well. Other players who recorded assists for Lambton Shores were Steven Beenackers, who had two and Ryan Trottier and Nick Sproveiro, who contributed one a piece.

St. Marys' Andrew Masters stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Lincolns registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. St. Marys ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Luke Jackson was ejected from the game. Lambton Shores registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
