Michael Verboom scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Chatham Maroons held off the challenges of the Sarnia Legionnaires in a tough 4-2 win. Verboom provided Chatham with the game-winning tally when he scored 9:22 into the the first period. Kyle Brothers assisted on the tally.The Maroons got the win on the strength of a great game by Verboom, who had one goal and two assists. Chatham excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Chatham also got points from Brothers, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Chatham included Ian Faubert and Adam Arseneault, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Connor McKinnon and Tanner Ferguson, who contributed one a piece. Sarnia was held below its usual level of production. The Legionnaires average 4.5 goals per game. Sarnia's offense rang up 38 shots on the Maroons' net. The Legionnaires were led by Jay Clarke, who registered one goal and one assist. Clarke scored 18:39 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Chatham. Thomas Moxley picked up the assist. Josh Kestner also scored for Sarnia. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Nathan Mater and Brad Campbell, who each chipped in one. Jacob Keogh recorded 36 saves for Chatham. The Maroons incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Sarnia's Hunter Johnson stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Legionnaires incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For Sarnia, Kestner was ejected from the game.
