The Strathroy Rockets beat the Leamington Flyers, 3-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. Ryan Field provided Strathroy with the game-winning tally when he scored 18:31 into the the first period. The Rockets earned a power play opportunity when Blaine Bechard was put in the box for roughing. Mike Mandarelli assisted on the tally.Strathroy was sparked by Tony Belony, who had one goal. Belony scored 11:55 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Strathroy. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:48 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Nick Boyer also scored for Strathroy. Other players who recorded assists for Strathroy were Brett Dalton, who had one and Kurtis Sander, who had two. Leamington could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Flyers put an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game. The Rockets were unable to stop Leamington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Leamington was helped by Kyle Quick, who finished with one goal. Quick scored on the power play 17:39 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Strathroy. The Flyers had taken the advantage when Strathroy's Jack Kilgour got sent off for cross checking. Nathan Opblinger picked up the assist. Leamington also got a goal from Kyle Shaw as well. In addition, Leamington received assists from Graham Kelsey, who had one and Mitchell Amante, who had two. Tynan Lauziere made 32 saves for the Rockets on 34 shots. Strathroy totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. For the Rockets, Sander was ejected from the game. Austyn Roudebush took the loss and made 12 saves before being replaced by Trevor Wheaton who made 11 saves. Leamington totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dylan Seguin was ejected from the game. |
