Hart's big game bests Fort Erie in 7-5 Thorold win

Drake Hart had five goals and one assist to lead the Thorold Blackhawks to a 7-5 victory over the Fort Erie Meteors.

Hart got on the scoresheet 9:54 into the first period. He then added goals at 16:11 into the second, at 18:31 into the second, at 13 seconds into the third, and at 7:37 into the third.

Thorold's penalty kill excelled, as the Blackhawks gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

Thorold stifled Fort Erie's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Meteors were unable to stop the Blackhawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Thorold eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The Blackhawks outdid their season average for goals scored. Thorold has scored at the pace of 4.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Thorold also got points from Owen Sobchak, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Kyle Tanev, who also tallied one goal and two assists. More assists for Thorold came via Roger Sherwood, who had one and Matt Pizzo, Jason Abbott, and Zach McQuade, who each chipped in two.

Fort Erie kept the Blackhawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ian Shorthouse made 35 saves on 40 shots.

The Meteors were led by Braden Kavaratzis, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Kavaratzis scored 6:32 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Nik Passero assisted on the tally. Fort Erie additionally got points from Mike Boles, who also had one goal and one assist and Richard DeMarco, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Fort Erie included Jack Webb and Carson Johnstone, who each put in one. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Austin Carroll, Josh Micallef, Mac Passero, Aaron Wanat, and Jesse Pereira, who contributed one a piece.

Thorold incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Fort Erie's Liam Conway stopped 33 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Meteors incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
