Elmira uses fast start to beat Brantford, 8-2

The Elmira Sugar Kings jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Brantford 99ers, 8-2.

Mitch Wright was all over the ice for Elmira, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Wright scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:49 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Elmira. The Sugar Kings had taken the advantage when Brantford's Mitch Camacho got sent off for checking from behind. Brad Kobryn picked up the assist. Wright's next tally on the power play made the score 8-2 Elmira with 46 seconds left in the third period. Elmira had gotten the advantage when the 99ers' Nathan Ferris was sent off for checking from behind. Alex Mutton provided the assist.

The Sugar Kings' penalty kill excelled, as Elmira gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays.

The Sugar Kings kept Brantford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Andre Keire made 43 saves on 51 shots. Elmira's goal total was higher than its season average. The Sugar Kings have scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Elmira took advantage of the 99ers' penalties, tallying four goals off of six power play opportunities. The Sugar Kings could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

Elmira also got points from Adam Brubacher, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Mutton, who also had one goal and two assists, Kobryn, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Steven Jakiela, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Adam Campagnolo, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Cash Seraphim also scored for Elmira. In addition, Elmira received assists from Justin Cooke and Austin Fischer, who contributed one a piece and Craig Johnson, Rob Kohli, and Zac Coulter, who each chipped in two.

Brantford also got a goal from Cole Cummings as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Leonard Dziemianko, Nathan Bastian, and Mitch Atkins, who contributed one a piece.

Hayden Neuman rejected 25 shots on goal for Elmira. For the Sugar Kings, Jakiela and Jaden Goetz(APJ) were ejected from the contest. Brantford ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Team's Ferris and Camacho were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
