The Brampton Bombers beat the Brantford 99ers, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. A goal 4:55 into the the first period by Nickolas McNutt ( APJ ) proved to be the game winner, and powered Brampton to the victory Jason Smith provided the assist.Chris Maione was all over the ice for the Bombers, as he racked up two goals in the win. Maione's tallies came at 6:52 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Brampton and 10:31 into the first to make the score 3-1 Brampton. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:10 into the third period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts. Brampton racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and three majors for 45 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Bombers had been spending in the box. Brampton forced Brantford's goalies to work in net, taking 41 shots and forcing 38 saves. Marcus Del Conte made three stops and Andre Keire made 35. The Bombers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Brampton also got points from McNutt ( APJ ), who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Brampton received assists from Reid Jackman, Brandon Clelland, and Beau Goehrum, who contributed one a piece. The the 99ers penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and three majors for 49 minutes in penalty time. Brantford surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The 99ers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brampton to score on any of its six power plays. Brantford was led by Paris Briscoe, who scored the team's only goal. Briscoe scored 9:28 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Brampton. Ryon Pereira assisted on the tally. Scott Patton rejected 21 shots on goal for the Bombers. For Brampton, Smith, Josh Villaflor, and Phil Caputo were ejected from the contest. Team's Briscoe, JJ Harland, and Scotty Penwarden were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
