Zupan's goals lift Ancaster to 6-1 victory over Thorold

Blake Richard stood on his head and made 43 saves to lead the Ancaster Avalanche to a 6-1 victory over the Thorold Blackhawks.

Luke Zupan had a great game for Ancaster, netting two goals. Zupan's tallies came at 13:15 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ancaster and 25 seconds into the third to make the score 3-0 Ancaster.

The Avalanche kept Thorold's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brendan Polasek made 26 saves on 32 shots. Ancaster's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Avalanche average 3.9 goals per contest.

Ancaster additionally got points from Eric Eustace, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Ancaster also had goals scored by Michael Pollice, Cole Nagy, and Brett Farrelly, who scored one goal each. More assists for Ancaster came via Aaron St Pierre, Blake Luscombe, Ryan Lewis, Elijah Williams, and Jake Milligan, who contributed one a piece and Dustin Chenier, Max Balinson, and Zach Niemanen, who each chipped in two.

The Blackhawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Ancaster power plays. Thorold did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Blackhawks put an average of 4.8 pucks into the net per game. Ancaster was unable to stop Thorold from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blackhawks eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

Thorold was led by Zach McQuade, who scored the team's only goal. McQuade scored on the power play 1:34 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Ancaster. The Blackhawks had gained a power play chance when Nagy was whistled for tripping. Jason Abbott assisted on the tally.

The Avalanche incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Thorold incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Blackhawks, Michael Sharpe was ejected from the game.
