Zach McQuade registered one point to lead the Thorold Blackhawks to a 5-2 victory over the Welland Jr. Canadians.

Thorold forced Welland goalie Liam Conway to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Thorold additionally got points from Kyle Tanev, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Thorold included Christian Difelice, Owen Sobchak, and Roger Sherwood, who scored one goal each. In addition, Thorold received assists from Quinn Geddes, Jason Abbott, Kevin Millejours, and Francesco Gigliotti, who each chipped in one and Chris Goulet and Joe Mitchell, who contributed two a piece.

The Jr. Canadians excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Welland kept the Blackhawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brendan Polasek made 36 saves on 38 shots.

The Jr. Canadians were helped by Jack Fitzgerald, who grabbed one goal. Fitzgerald scored on the power play 12:40 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Welland. Welland had gotten the advantage when Thorold's Sobchak was sent off for head contact. Matthew Mateljan picked up the assist. Welland also got a goal from Damien Alfieri(AP) as well. Other players who recorded assists for Welland were Adam Mataya, Matt Cuglietta, and Brayden Stortz, who each chipped in one.

The Blackhawks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Conway recorded 26 saves for the Jr. Canadians. Welland incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
