Wheaton leads Leamington to shutout victory over Sarnia

Trevor Wheaton made 31 saves to complete the shutout and led the Leamington Flyers to a 3-0 win against the Sarnia Legionnaires.

Leamington was paced by Blaine Bechard, who tallied one goal. Bechard scored 3:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. J.P. Grineau provided the assist.

The Flyers' defensive play was more effective than usual against Sarnia. Leamington gives up 2.3 goals on average per game. The Legionnaires were unable to stop the Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Leamington eventually piled up 47 shots on goal.

Nathan Opblinger also scored for Leamington. More assists for Leamington came via Nicklas Pleshakov, who had one.

Sarnia's offense operated below it season average. The Legionnaires average 4.6 goals per game. Sarnia forced the Flyers goalie Wheaton to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Leamington incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Friesen was ejected from the game. The Legionnaires' Jake Danson stopped 44 shots out of the 47 that he faced. Sarnia incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
