Elmira rolls over Guelph, 9-2

The Elmira Sugar Kings' Mitch Wright had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 9-2 win over the Guelph Hurricanes.

Wright found the back of the net 4:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira and again while on the power play 11:27 into the third to make the score 7-2 Elmira.

Elmira forced Hurricanes' goalies to work in net, firing 36 shots and forcing 27 saves. Bradley Van Schubert made 11 stops and Stormer Santana made 16. The Sugar Kings found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Elmira averages 3.9 goals per contest. The Sugar Kings' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Elmira finished with 30 penalty minutes. The defensemen of the Sugar Kings were also effective in Guelph's zone, and came away with four goals.

Elmira additionally got points from Justin Cooke, who also registered one goal and one assist and Michael Wilkins, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Elmira also had goals scored by Brad Kobryn, who had two and Craig Johnson, Adam Brubacher, and Zac Coulter, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Jaden Goetz(APJ), who had two, David Savery, who had three, and Rob Kohli, Alex Mutton, Adam Campagnolo, and Cash Seraphim, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes' offense rang up 36 shots on Elmira's net.

Guelph was led by Zach McFadden, who registered one goal and one assist. McFadden scored on the power play 15:15 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Elmira. The Hurricanes had taken the advantage when the Sugar Kings' Wilkins got sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Craig Martini provided the assist. Guelph also got a goal from Ryan Migliaccio as well. More assists for Guelph came via Matt Lippa, who had one.

Jonathan Reinhart made 34 saves for Elmira on 36 shots. The Sugar Kings registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Guelph incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. The Hurricanes ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Lawrence Pagnan was ejected from the game.
