Niemanen's big game bests Buffalo in 5-0 Ancaster win

Zach Niemanen was all over the ice for the Ancaster Avalanche, as he tallied two goals and two assists in Ancaster's 5-0 win over the Buffalo Regals.

Niemanen's tallies came at 39 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ancaster and 8:10 into the third to make the score 5-0 Ancaster.

The Avalanche were boosted by Matt Calas, who turned in a shutout with 31 saves. Calas certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.0 entering the contest.

Ancaster excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Ancaster additionally got points from Blake Luscombe, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Ancaster also got a goal from Hayden Guitard as well. More assists for Ancaster came via Luke Zupan, who had two and Dustin Chenier, Eric Eustace, Max Balinson, Cole Nagy, and Ryan Knill, who contributed one a piece.

Buffalo managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for 12 minutes in penalty time. The Regals finished below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Buffalo forced the Avalanche goalie Calas to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Ancaster incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Team's Zupan and Balinson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Regals' Ian Sylves *AP stopped 21 shots out of the 26 that he faced.
