Guelph beats Brantford 4-2 after comeback scare

The Brantford 99ers tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Guelph Hurricanes would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

A goal by Matt Lippa put Guelph up 4-1 in the second period, but Brantford pulled to within two on Mitch Atkins's tally 5:15 into the third period.

Ryan Migliaccio was all over the ice for the Hurricanes, as he had two goals in the win. Migliaccio's tallies came on the power play at 1:03 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and 6:30 into the second to make the score 3-1 Guelph.

Guelph put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the 99ers to score on any of their eight power plays.

Guelph additionally got points from Lippa, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Craig Martini, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Guelph received assists from Michael Courvoisier and Zach McFadden, who contributed one a piece.

Brantford found itself short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

John Nay also scored for Brantford. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Alex Deluce and Nathan Bastian, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes' Stormer Santana stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Guelph incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Marcus Del Conte made 19 saves for the 99ers on 23 shots.
