Zupan's big game bests Port Colborne in 5-1 Ancaster winVale Center Fri, Nov 29, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Luke Zupan was all over the ice for the Ancaster Avalanche, as he tallied one goal and three assists in Ancaster's 5-1 win over the Port Colborne Pirates. Zupan beat Mitchell Knight with a shot 14:46 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Ancaster. Zach Niemanen picked up the assist. Zupan dished an assist on Niemanen's goal that made the score 1-0 Ancaster at 8:09 into the first period. He then added assists on Niemanen's goal at 9:09 into the second and on Niemanen's goal at 7:42 into the third.The Avalanche's Blake Richard was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 36 saves and let only one puck past him. Richard certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.05 entering the contest. Ancaster forced Pirates' goalies to work all game long, totaling 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Knight made 19 stops and Marcus Hlywka made nine. The Avalanche's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine Port Colborne power plays. Ancaster could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. Ancaster additionally got points from Niemanen, who also tallied three goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Ancaster also got a goal from Ryan Lewis as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ancaster were Hayden Guitard, who had one, Cole Nagy, who had two, and Blake Luscombe, who had three. Port Colborne did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Pirates put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. Port Colborne's offense rang up 37 shots on the Avalanche's net. Ancaster registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. The Pirates incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
