Strathroy squeaks by London, 4-2

The Strathroy Rockets and the London Nationals were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Strathroy made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

The Rockets gained the winning advantage on a goal by Mike Mandarelli 17:54 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Strathroy was led by Shawn Grogan, who grabbed one goal. Grogan scored 19:16 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Strathroy. Wes Baker assisted on the tally.

Strathroy additionally got points from Baker, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Strathroy also got a goal from Dan Chapman as well. More assists for Strathroy came via Brett Dalton, who had two and Matt Lebert, Tony Belony, Kurtis Sander, Ryan Field, and Tyler Coleman, who each chipped in one.

London racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The Nationals had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. London excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Nationals could not produce up to they normal offensive output. London averages 4.3 goals per game. The Rockets were unable to stop the Nationals from sending pucks towards the net, and London eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

The Nationals were helped by Drew Worrad, who tallied one goal. Worrad scored 55 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-2 Strathroy. Tristen Elie provided the assist. Paul Hopkins also scored for London. In addition, London received assists from Matt Fuller and Derek Todosichuk, who contributed one a piece.

Jack Moylan recorded 31 saves for Strathroy. The Rockets ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For Strathroy, Jack Van Boekel was ejected from the game. London's Liam Herbst stopped 20 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Nationals registered one goal on three power play opportunities. London ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Tuffin was ejected from the game.
