Ancaster outlasts Fort Erie, 5-3

The Ancaster Avalanche and the Fort Erie Meteors were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Ancaster made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Michael Pollice's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

In the losing effort, Fort Erie was led by Richard DeMarco, who registered two goals and one assist. DeMarco scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:20 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A holding penalty on Max Balinson had put the Meteors on the power play. Bryce Biller assisted on the tally. DeMarco's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Ancaster with 7:04 left in the third period. Fort Erie had taken the advantage when the Avalanche's Ryan Lewis got sent off for interference. Sam Quaranta picked up the assist.

In the losing effort, the Meteors were sparked by DeMarco, who racked up two goals and one assist.

Ancaster was led by Zach Niemanen, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Niemanen scored 4:02 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Ancaster. Christopher Klack assisted on the tally. Ancaster additionally got points from Jake Bain, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Blake Luscombe, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Luke Zupan, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Ancaster came via Eric Eustace and Cole Nagy, who contributed one a piece.

Fort Erie managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Meteors finished below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game.

Jesse Pereira also scored for Fort Erie. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Jared Marino, who had two.

Matt Calas rejected 23 shots on goal for the Avalanche. Ancaster incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Matt Baker recorded 17 saves for Fort Erie. The Meteors registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
