Chatham blows out Lambton Shores, 10-2

The Chatham Maroons had a six-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 10-2 win over the Lambton Shores Predators.

James McEwen (APM) had two goals and two assists to lead Chatham. McEwen (APM) scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:45 into the third period to make the score 7-1 Chatham. A inciting an opponent penalty on Bryan Boersma had put the Maroons on the power play. Brayden Hopkins assisted on the tally. McEwen (APM)'s next tally on the power play made the score 10-2 Chatham with 57 seconds left in the third period. Trevor Richardson provided the assist.

Lambton Shores was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Chatham was able to score four times while on the power play.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:46 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The Maroons racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and four majors for 54 minutes in penalty time. Chatham had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Maroons made Predators' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 62 shots and forcing 52 saves. Justin Fazio made 34 stops and Justin Tugwell made 18. Chatham surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Maroons average 4.7 goals per game. Chatham got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed five goals during the game.

Chatham also got points from Richardson, who also had one goal and one assist, Kyle Brothers, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Tanner Ferguson, who also registered two goals and one assist, and Adam Arseneault, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Chatham also had goals scored by Oliver Blayne, who had one and Nate Pietens, who had two. More assists for Chatham came via Connor McKinnon, Ben Pataki, and Mark Fratarcangelli, who contributed one a piece and Steven Szekesy and Hayden Verbeek, who each chipped in two.

The Predators were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and three majors for 51 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 28.0 minutes per game Lambton Shores had been spending in the box.

The Predators were led by Matthew Kenney, who had one goal and one assist. Kenney scored 3:05 into the third period to make the score 6-1 Chatham. Steven Beenackers picked up the assist. Lambton Shores also got a goal from Brendan Trottier as well. In addition, Lambton Shores received assists from Matt Ross, who had one.

Brendan Johnston recorded 23 saves for the Maroons. Team's Pataki, John Montgomery, Blayne, and Verbeek were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Lambton Shores registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Predators, Cody Perriam, Brett Duncan, and Kyler Keating were ejected from the contest.
