Caledonia beats Niagara Falls 6-1 as Fontana gets hat trick

Cosimo Fontana lifted the Caledonia Corvairs to a 6-1 victory with a hat trick against the Niagara Falls Canucks.

Fontana notched his first tally 9:50 into the first period. He then added goals at 42 seconds into the second and at 46 seconds into the third.

Caledonia was led by goalie Colin Furlong, who finished with 32 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Furlong will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.62.

The Corvairs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Niagara Falls power plays. Caledonia kept Niagara Falls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Hunter Johnson made 31 saves on 37 shots.

Caledonia additionally got points from Matt Quilty, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Caledonia also got a goal from Jordan Peacock as well. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Cody Brown, who had three, Spencer Gourlay, Brooker Muir, Justin Abraham, and Jeffrey Marlott, who contributed one a piece, and Connor Murphy and Kyler Nixon, who each chipped in two.

The Canucks managed to stay out of the box for the most part, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Niagara Falls finished with less than its 38.0 minutes average penalties per game. The Canucks could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Niagara Falls puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Canucks forced the Corvairs goalie Furlong to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Caledonia totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 2-for-8 on the power play. For the Corvairs, Marlott was ejected from the game. Niagara Falls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nolan Dunn was ejected from the game.
