Ancaster outlasts Port Colborne, 4-2

The game between the Ancaster Avalanche and the Port Colborne Pirates was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Ancaster emerged with a 4-2 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Blake Luscombe at 15:18 of the third period.

Zach Niemanen was all over the ice for the Avalanche, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Niemanen found the back of the net on the power play 12:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ancaster and again while 19:56 into the third to make the score 4-2 Ancaster.

Ancaster pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 38 penalty minutes.

The Avalanche's offense rang up 34 shots on Port Colborne's net. Ancaster's penalty kill managed to stymie the Pirates' power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down.

Ancaster also got points from Luscombe, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Max Balinson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Ancaster were Luke Zupan, who had two and Eric Eustace, Christopher Klack, and David Eccles, who each chipped in one.

Port Colborne kept the Avalanche's goalie busy throughout the game, and Blake Richard made 35 saves on 37 shots.

The Pirates were helped by Brock Ackerman, who tallied one goal and one assist. Ackerman scored on the power play 15:12 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A hooking penalty on William Kelly APM had put Port Colborne on the power play. Charlie Izaguirre picked up the assist. Port Colborne additionally got points from Izaguirre, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Port Colborne received assists from James Mewse-Detrich and Mack Steele, who contributed one a piece.

Ancaster registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. The Avalanche ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake Milligan was ejected from the game. Mitchell Knight recorded 30 saves for the Pirates. Port Colborne incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
