St. Thomas completes comeback, beats Lambton Shores, 5-4The Shores Recreation Centre Sat, Nov 16, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The St. Thomas Stars climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Lambton Shores Predators, 5-4. St. Thomas never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Stars was down 3-0 after a goal by Lambton Shores' Matthew Kenney at 11:02 in the second period. St. Thomas tied things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by John Warren at 15:32 in the third period. The Stars got the game winner at 19:21 in the third period on a goal by Warren. Warren had a great game for St. Thomas, netting two goals. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:44 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Predators were unable to stop the Stars from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Thomas eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. St. Thomas additionally got points from Braden Hellems, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for St. Thomas included Blair Mincer and Matt Simsons, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Austin Ullet, who had one and Mitch Klie, who had five. Lambton Shores' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Predators finished with 27 penalty minutes. Lambton Shores also got points from Jay Ritchie, who also had one goal and one assist. Nick Sproveiro also scored for Lambton Shores. In addition, Lambton Shores received assists from Steven Beenackers, who had two and Bryan Boersma, Kyler Keating, and Brendan Trottier, who each chipped in one. The Stars' Riley Brown stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. St. Thomas totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 2-for-6 on the power play. For the Stars, Brett Van Dusen and Simsons were ejected from the contest. Justin Tugwell made 33 saves for Lambton Shores on 38 shots. The Predators registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Lambton Shores ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Trottier was ejected from the game.
