Ancaster rolls over Port Colborne, 7-3Vale Center Fri, Nov 15, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Ancaster Avalanche were firing on all cylinders against the Port Colborne Pirates, and when the final buzzer sounded Avalanche emerged with a 7-3 win. Ancaster got the win with help from a great game by Zach Niemanen, who had one goal and two assists. Niemanen scored on the power play 26 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ancaster. A high sticking penalty on Mack Steele had put the Avalanche on the power play. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:36 into the second period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with seven game misconducts. Ancaster put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Port Colborne to score on any of its three power plays. The Avalanche forced the Pirates goalie Marcus Hlywka to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Ancaster bested its season scoring average. The Avalanche average 3.5 goals per game. Ancaster's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Ancaster additionally got points from Eric Eustace, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Blake Luscombe, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Luke Zupan, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Ancaster also got a goal from Jake Bain as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ancaster were Max Balinson, Hayden Guitard, Brett Farrelly, Harrison Domagala, and David Eccles, who contributed one a piece. Port Colborne found itself short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays. The Pirates were helped by Spencer Fox, who finished with one goal and one assist. Fox scored 18:29 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Ancaster. Jordan Bolibruck assisted on the tally. Port Colborne also got points from Bolibruck, who also registered one goal and one assist. Brock Ackerman also scored for Port Colborne. In addition, Port Colborne received assists from Cody Levasseur and Charlie Izaguirre, who each chipped in one. Blake Richard rejected 24 shots on goal for the Avalanche. Ancaster ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors. For the Avalanche, Alex Panov, Michael Pollice, and Cole Nagy were ejected from the contest. Hlywka recorded 24 saves for Port Colborne. Team's Jordon Boyko and Trevor Smith were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
