Thorold erases deficit to stun Niagara Falls, 4-3

The Niagara Falls Canucks could not hold down the Thorold Blackhawks, and Blackhawks erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 4-3 win.

Thorold let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Blackhawks took a 3-2 advantage on a goal by Zach McQuade at 6:42 in the third period. Thorold found itself down 2-0 after Niagara Falls' Denis Creighton put the puck home at 16:01 in the second period. After knotting things up at 3-3 on a short handed goal by Dylan Savory at 15:07 in the third, the Blackhawks got the game-winner from Kyle Tanev at 17:13 in the third period.

Tanev had two goals to lead Thorold to victory.

The Blackhawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Canucks to score on any of their seven power plays. Niagara Falls was unable to stop Thorold from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blackhawks eventually piled up 45 shots on goal.

Thorold additionally got points from Drake Hart, who also racked up one goal and three assists. More assists for Thorold came via Matt Pizzo, Jason Abbott, and Roger Sherwood, who each chipped in one.

The Canucks' offense rang up 35 shots on Thorold's net.

In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Marcus Michalski, who had two and Cole Vinnai, Dylan Pietrangelo, Frank Nemeth, and Vittorio Giannico, who contributed one a piece.

Ian Shorthouse made 32 saves for the Blackhawks on 35 shots. Thorold incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Pietrangelo recorded 41 saves for Niagara Falls. The Canucks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
