Elmira beats Brampton 4-3 after comeback scare

The Brampton Bombers tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Elmira Sugar Kings would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Elmira took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Brampton storm back on a Phil Caputo goal 18:26 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Sugar Kings' penalty kill excelled, as Elmira gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Sugar Kings forced Bombers' goalies to work between the pipes, firing 34 shots and forcing 30 saves. Scott Patton made 20 stops and Bryan Raymond made 10. Elmira's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Sugar Kings finished with 26 penalty minutes.

Elmira was helped by Brad Kobryn, who finished with one goal. Kobryn scored 2:00 into the third period to make the score Elmira. Adam Campagnolo picked up the assist. Elmira also got points from Campagnolo, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cash Seraphim also scored for Elmira. In addition, Elmira received assists from Zac Coulter, who had one and David Savery, who had two.

The Bombers' offense rang up 33 shots on the Sugar Kings' net.

Brampton was helped by Brandon Stapley, who grabbed one goal. Stapley scored on the power play 10:22 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Elmira. The Bombers had gotten the advantage when Elmira's Justin Cooke was sent off for holding. Owen Burry assisted on the tally. Brampton also got a goal from Cameron Cruickshank as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Brad Sheppard, Reid Jackman, and Brad Bollert, who contributed one a piece.

The Sugar Kings' Hayden Neuman stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Elmira registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Brampton incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
