Sarnia survives St. Marys comeback, wins 4-3Pyramid Recreation Centre Fri, Nov 15, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The St. Marys Lincolns tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Sarnia Legionnaires held on for a 4-3 victory. A goal by Josh Kestner put Sarnia up 4-1 in the third period, but St. Marys pulled to within one on Rai Diloreto's tally 18:44 into the third period. Jay Clarke was all over the ice for the Legionnaires, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Clarke scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:49 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Sarnia. Sarnia had gained a power play chance when Braydon Blight was whistled for head contact. Kestner assisted on the tally. Clarke's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Sarnia with 10:08 left in the second period. The Legionnaires played down a man on Nathan Mater's high sticking. Kestner provided the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:15 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Sarnia's offense rang up 41 shots on the Lincolns' net. Sarnia additionally got points from Kestner, who also had two goals and two assists. St. Marys forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Lincolns had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. St. Marys was helped by Nathan Smith APM, who grabbed one goal. Smith APM scored 7:44 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Sarnia. Mike Siddall picked up the assist. St. Marys also got points from Colin Nancekinell, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Sarnia totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. For the Legionnaires, Mitchell Minder and Riley Babkirk were ejected from the contest. The Lincolns' Connor Hughes stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. St. Marys registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Team's Ben Kirwin and Luke Jackson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
