Cambridge uses shootout to best Guelph, 3-2 (3-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cambridge Winter Hawks defeated the Guelph Hurricanes in a shootout 3-2 (3-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams. Guelph's shootout goal was scored by Matt Lippa. Cambridge's other shootout goals were scored by Alex Bottigoni and Adam Dauda.

The Winter Hawks overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Cambridge was down 2-1 after a goal by the Hurricanes' Ian Chan at 2:53 in the third period. The Winter Hawks tied things up at 2-2 on a short handed goal by Bottigoni at 15:50 in the third period.

Cambridge excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Guelph was unable to stop the Winter Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Cambridge eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

The Winter Hawks were helped by Hudson Michaelis, who racked up one goal. Michaelis scored 1:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. Cameron Pentsa picked up the assist. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Dauda, who had one and Anthony Guido, who had two.

The Hurricanes forced Cambridge goalie Jacob Keogh to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Craig Martini also scored for Guelph. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Sebastian Stangherlin, Matt Nightingale, Patrick Kudla, and Chad Herron, who contributed one a piece.

The Winter Hawks' Keogh stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Cambridge incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Bradley Van Schubert made 33 saves for Guelph on 35 shots. The Hurricanes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
