Listowel blows out Brantford, 5-1Gretzky Main Rink Thu, Nov 14, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Listowel Cyclones were firing on all cylinders against the Brantford 99ers, and when the final buzzer sounded Cyclones emerged with a 5-1 win. Kenny Huether had two goals and one assist to lead Listowel. Huether scored the first of his two goals at 14:27 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Listowel. Ted Nichol picked up the assist. Huether's next tally made the score 5-1 Listowel with 1:16 left in the third period. Nichol provided the assist. The Cyclones' Tanner Topham was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 46 saves and let only one puck past him. Topham certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 4.15 entering the contest. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:57 into the second period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts. Listowel's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Brantford power plays. The Cyclones outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Listowel averages 2.8 goals per contest. Listowel also got a goal from Mac Nichol as well. Other players who recorded assists for Listowel were Sam Harris and Ben Shelley, who each chipped in one and Kevin Gergley and Scott Pawson, who contributed two a piece. Brantford's offense rang up 47 shots on the Cyclones' net. The 99ers' penalty kill unit could not stop Listowel's power play, which converted on two of three opportunities. Brantford was led by Scotty Penwarden, who scored the team's only goal. Penwarden scored 14:25 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Listowel. Paris Briscoe picked up the assist. The Cyclones ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. For Listowel, Chad Lemire and Brandon Frandsen were ejected from the contest. Andre Keire rejected 19 shots on goal for the 99ers. Brantford ended with 38 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Team's David Storey and Penwarden were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. |
