The Port Colborne Pirates almost clawed their way back from a four-goal deficit, but the Buffalo Regals managed to pull out a 5-4 win in the end. Buffalo led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Regals' Matt Mahony's scored on the power play at 11:00 in the second period to put Buffalo up 4-0. Colton Anstey had a great game for the Regals, netting two goals. Anstey found the back of the net on the power play 12:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Buffalo and again while on the power play 11:26 into the third to make the score 5-4 Buffalo. Port Colborne was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Buffalo was able to score four times while on the power play. The Regals bested their season scoring average. This season, Buffalo averages 2.2 goals per contest. Buffalo additionally got points from Mahony, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Nicholas Matos, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Justin Andriaccio as well. More assists for Buffalo came via Jeff Avoilo *AP, Jake Burford, Jake Battistoni, and Stephen Schulz, who each chipped in one and Matthew Shumate and Kennedy Monaco, who contributed two a piece. The Pirates forced the Regals goalie Adam Dentico to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Port Colborne was led by Spencer Fox, who racked up two goals. Fox scored the first of his two goals at 15:29 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Buffalo. Trevor Smith picked up the assist. Fox's next tally made the score 4-4 with 27 seconds left in the second period. Cody Mintz provided the assist. Ryall Ledyard also scored for Port Colborne. Other players who recorded assists for Port Colborne were Jordan Bolibruck, who had two and Cody Levasseur and DYLAN BURDICK, who each chipped in one. Adam Dentico made 28 saves for Buffalo on 32 shots. The Regals incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Marcus Hlywka rejected 18 shots on goal for the Pirates. Port Colborne incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. |
