Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kitchener Dutchmen defeated the Elmira Sugar Kings in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.Kitchener overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Dutchmen trailed 2-1 after a power play goal by Elmira's Brad Kobryn at 18:34 in the second period. Kitchener tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Adam Kawelic(APM) at 18:07 in the third period. The Dutchmen could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Kitchener additionally got points from Keli Grant, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Kyle Ellis, who had one and John Divo, who had two. Kitchener was unable to stop the Sugar Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Elmira eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Elmira also got a goal from Rob Kohli as well. More assists for Elmira came via Cash Seraphim, who had two and David Savery and Zac Coulter, who contributed one a piece. Marc Williams recorded 40 saves for the Dutchmen. Kitchener registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Hayden Neuman rejected 27 shots on goal for the Sugar Kings. Elmira incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
