Elmira uses early goal to top Cambridge, 4-2

The Elmira Sugar Kings took the lead against the Cambridge Winter Hawks in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 4-2 victory.

Mitch Wright provided Elmira with the game-winning tally when he scored 18:31 into the the first period. A roughing penalty on Marcellis Subban had put the Sugar Kings on the power play. Adam Campagnolo picked up the assist.

Zac Coulter had a great game for Elmira, netting two goals. Coulter's tallies came at 4:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira and 14:30 into the first to make the score 2-1 Elmira.

The Sugar Kings' penalty kill excelled, as Elmira gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

The Sugar Kings stifled Cambridge's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Elmira forced the Winter Hawks goalie Jacob Keogh to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. The Sugar Kings' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Elmira finished with 32 penalty minutes.

Elmira also got a goal from David Savery as well. More assists for Elmira came via Brad Kobryn, who had two and Craig Johnson, Cass Frey, and Cash Seraphim, who contributed one a piece.

The Sugar Kings were unable to stop Cambridge from sending pucks towards the net, and the Winter Hawks eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Cambridge could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Winter Hawks were helped by Alex Bottigoni, who racked up one goal. Bottigoni scored 15:02 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Anthony Guido also scored for Cambridge. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Adam Dauda and Alex Black, who each chipped in one.

Jonathan Reinhart rejected 36 shots on goal for Elmira. The Sugar Kings registered two goals on nine power play opportunities. Keogh recorded 31 saves for Cambridge.
