Leamington rips Lambton Shores, 7-2

The Leamington Flyers had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-2 win over the Lambton Shores Predators.

Lambton Shores' power play was ineffective against Leamington's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

In the losing effort, the Predators were led by Matthew Kenney, who tallied two goals. Kenney scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:37 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Lambton Shores had taken the advantage when the Flyers' Ryan Muzzin got sent off for slashing. Matt Ross picked up the assist. Kenney's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Leamington with one second1 seconds left in the first period. Adam Wammes assisted on the tally.

The Leamington penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. The Predators were unable to stop Leamington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Leamington was helped by Jared Dennis, who registered one goal and one assist. Dennis scored 19:26 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Leamington. Mitchell Amante picked up the assist. Leamington additionally got points from David Dalby, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Alex Seguin, who also had one goal and one assist, and Nathan Opblinger, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. J.P. Grineau also scored for Leamington. In addition, Leamington received assists from Chris Scott, who had two and Blaine Bechard, Kyle Quick, and Dylan Seguin, who each chipped in one.

Other players who recorded assists for Lambton Shores were Ryan Trottier and Steven Beenackers, who contributed one a piece.

Trevor Wheaton recorded 27 saves for the Flyers. Leamington registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. The Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Colin Moore was ejected from the game. Lambton Shores' Justin Fazio stopped 29 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Predators ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. For Lambton Shores, Wammes was ejected from the game.
